That's a smart plan. I know I'm the one shouting at people to follow a plan but uh...do you mind if I ask you to actually make plans? I'm more of a girl of action, you know?

[Jude was always the brains of the sibling duo...and if she squinted, Akira looked a little bit like Jude when he'd had his glasses on. Other than the straight teeth, acceptable fashion choices, general level of hygiene, and...okay, they aren't actually that similar, but she's reaching for a lifeline from a more experienced rebel here.]

[ There's a soft blink, and then something... sort of... homesick and nostalgic enters his eyes. The smile he gives her is a gentle one as he nods. ]

[ The playful tone isn't especially so, but at least it's a sign he's trying his damnest to just be okay again. ]

Any specific questions you'd consider asking? I know one I'm choosing involves whether, or not, everyone on that side has died at some point, that they know of.

[ He twists a small portion of his bangs. ]

We're thinking they might have more people on that side who are like the Life Coach, or--

[ mmmMMMM... why didn't he think of it before? Especially after what was suggested... ]

I wonder if the Life Coach can pass freely between our side and that side.

[ That would mean they need to start asking her more questions about it, but who's to say she's even allowed to answer... ]

I don't know how I feel about Captain. "Friend" is good. Or "Prima Frienderina" if we need a title.

We should probably ask her about it...

For now, though, I can ask a ghost about who else is over there. Maybe if there's any parts of the mall they can get to and we can't if that doesn't pan out.

There's actually a small twitch of his lips at that, and he lifts a finger to press it against them. ]

What if it's Captain Prima Frienderina?

[ Well, you just signed the Teasing Waiver by calling yourself his friend, so... ]

Right. [ a nod ] Asking her after all four of us have had the chance to get our answers should work, because we'll have more information to work with for our questions.

[ A pause. ]

Even if there's some reason she's forbidden from telling us something, I'm sure we can find a way to read between lines with what she does tell us.

Yeah. It definitely feels like she wants to tell us more than she's allowed to, but I guess that just means we have to listen harder.

[ A soft chuckle is managed in response, initially. It's the latter half that has him finally, almost hesitantly opening one of the sodas to drink it.

She might notice said hesitance lingering around him before he takes a sip. ]

Yeah. And sometimes it's a matter of listening for what people aren't saying...

Yeah...like how you're not saying Akechi made these, but there's no other reason you'd seem so sad drinking them.

Before him... these soda always reminded me of being in the Metaverse. They functioned as healing items back there, too.

He's supporting you from where he is now. I mean, I tell myself that about my mom every day, but in Akechi's case it's probably literally true.

[ No lie, he never even bothered questioning how this stuff healed them in the Metaverse.

He just became what might've looked like a vending machine junkie to Makoto when she was spying on him. ]

[ Quietly, he takes a sip of the drink. ]

Heh... I'm sure he's hanging around at least a few of us, fretting whenever we do something like skipping a meal or not getting enough sleep...

[ Sooooooo... he's fretting a lot over Akira at the moment maybe. ]

Yeah. She...died when I was little. About ten years ago. I've got tapes and photos and all that stuff, but...it's a little less weird back home, so it's also a little less likely I'm being haunted.

[Just kinda staring at her drink now.]

Not like Akechi, who's probably yelling at us to get on with planning stuff right now, or something.

[ ... He's reaching out to lightly rest a hand on her upper arm for a moment.

Then, he moves to lean back a little, letting the can rest against his lips for a moment before he speaks. ]

Our last conversation involved him saying the last thing he'd ever want for me, is for me to be chained to the past.

[ He holds a blink, and then shakes his head. ]

I don't think he wants that for any of us, so... I firmly believe Goro's the kind of person who wants us to keep going forward. I'd think he wants us to not dwell on what we couldn't do.

[ A tiny, sheepish smile... ]

[When did Joey decide she was going to be a dancer? When did she decide she loved puzzles? Was it before, after, or right after inheriting a mysterious heirloom?]

I think you're exactly right. Akechi and...everyone, really, they're gone so we could keep going. Intentionally or not, that's what happened. We can't stop now.

Yeah... none of their lives will go to waste. If we can help it, this isn't the end for them, either.

[ A more assured smile surfaces for just a moment, and then he gives the best smile of a firm believer he can manage. ]

It's not over until we say it is.
